Maker Info

In 1998, Earnie and Ellie crossed paths at the Eugene Saturday Market, one of the longest-standing outdoor markets in the US. Here, they each had a booth selling their crafts. Karen Buxton, a beloved friend and fiber artist who has since passed away, dubbed their love story "a true market romance". One year later, in 1999, they married and built a life together on 20 acres of woodlands. They have a puppy, four cats, and a menagerie of wildlife including beavers, deer, raccoons, skunks, and turkeys.

Ellie and Earnie have been passionate artisans for the entirety of their lives. For over 35 years, Earnie has been working with wood and has been a part of the Saturday Market for over 25 years. Ellie has been designing and sewing for their shared business - Two Bossy Britches - for years as well as pursuing her full-time career with wood. This duo has been reclaiming discarded wood from the coast, streams, and yards, or sources from safe harvesting spots. Never do they cut down a living tree for any of their artwork, opting to retain the natural beauty created by Mother Nature. Committed to their art and to the Earth, their creations are a testament to their appreciation of the gift of life.

Care information

Although wood has its own antimicrobial properties, it is a good idea to occasionally clean your baby's rattle. Soak a clean, soft cloth with vinegar water or soapy water, wring out the cloth and wipe the wood.
Let the wood dry thoroughly (overnight) then reapply the Beeswax Polish or if baby is actively teething go ahead and use olive oil or coconut oil (these oils can go rancid on wood if left indefinitely, but are fine if they are going to be sucked out of the wood on a regular basis :-)
