Recycled Polyester

While organic cotton is our sustainable textile of choice, as it is great for all ages, lightweight, easily washable, and great for layering in all kinds of weather, our shop is still located in Seattle: it gets wet here! If it’s not a thunderstorm it’s a Spring shower or a Winter snow, and we need sturdy outerwear for little ones that is still sustainable and created with respect for our planet and the humans who make it.

When thinking “waterproof” most turn to plastic… and so do we! But there’s a way to create sturdy and waterproof outerwear without letting little ones splash in both PVC and puddles, and without producing more plastic. Just make it from plastic that already exists! Here at Bootyland we love finding makers that use PVC-free recycled plastic to create waterproof polyester that can withstand even the heaviest Seattle rain. Pair this versatile material with natural rubber rain boots, and the whole family is set for a day outdoors, no matter the weather!

When choosing textiles made with recycled polyester, we look for the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification to ensure all our clothing is certified to be harmless against human health. If you’re interested in learning more about the certification process, the OEKO-TEX website is a wonderful resource that outlines all their Standards and their independent certification processes.
